This project focused on deploying, configuring, and managing a Microsoft Windows Server environment within a hybrid IT infrastructure. The goal was to apply server administration concepts in a practical environment while exploring virtualization, workload management, storage services, networking, security, and infrastructure troubleshooting.
The project was originally designed as a collaborative team assignment involving planning, server deployment, virtualization management, documentation, and presentation. After collaboration and scheduling challenges affected the team's ability to complete the deployment together, I received instructor approval to transition the project into an individual deployment. This required me to take ownership of the project's planning, technical implementation, troubleshooting, validation, documentation, and final presentation.
The primary objective was to install, configure, optimize, and evaluate a Microsoft Windows Server environment while demonstrating how server technologies support modern organizational infrastructure.

Deployment & Implementation
I deployed the server environment using Microsoft Azure and maintained a consistent server naming convention, including the primary server name CYB300-SRV01.
The deployment covered the server lifecycle from initial planning and configuration through role installation, testing, troubleshooting, and validation. Each server role was selected with a defined purpose within the infrastructure rather than being installed independently without organizational context.
Active Directory Domain Services and DNS were incorporated into the environment to demonstrate centralized identity, domain, and name-resolution services. Hyper-V was also explored as the project's virtualization management solution.
PowerShell and Windows administrative tools were used to verify that the server environment and installed features were functioning as expected.
Testing included commands such as:
Get-WindowsFeature
along with network connectivity and ping testing. These validation steps helped confirm that required Windows Server roles and services were properly installed and that the environment could communicate as intended.

The completed project demonstrated a full Windows Server deployment lifecycle, including infrastructure planning, server configuration, role implementation, virtualization concepts, troubleshooting, testing, and validation.
Completing the deployment individually also required me to manage the project's technical and administrative responsibilities while maintaining consistency throughout the environment.

The primary recommendation for improvement was to provide additional visual evidence of the hands-on configuration process. This included screenshots from Hyper-V Manager, DNS Manager, Active Directory Users and Computers, and actual PowerShell command output. This feedback reinforced the importance of not only describing a successful technical implementation but also providing direct evidence that demonstrates the configuration and validation process.
Reflection
This project gave me a stronger understanding of how the individual components of Windows Server infrastructure work together, rather than viewing server roles as separate administrative tasks. Deploying the environment required me to think about networking, identity management, DNS, virtualization, testing, and troubleshooting as interconnected parts of a larger system.
The circumstances surrounding the project also required me to take greater ownership of the work than I initially anticipated. Transitioning from a collaborative assignment to an individually managed deployment meant that I was responsible for maintaining the project's direction, completing the technical work, documenting my decisions, troubleshooting problems, and preparing the final presentation.
One of my biggest takeaways was the importance of validation. Successfully installing a role or feature does not automatically mean that the infrastructure is functioning correctly. Testing connectivity, verifying installed features, reviewing configurations, and documenting troubleshooting steps are equally important parts of the deployment process.
The instructor's feedback also gave me an important lesson about technical documentation. While I successfully explained the configuration process, future projects should include more screenshots, command output, and other direct evidence of implementation. This would make my documentation more demonstrative and provide stronger proof of the hands-on technical work behind the final result.
Overall, the project strengthened my experience with Windows Server administration, Azure, virtualization, PowerShell, infrastructure troubleshooting, and independent technical project management.
